EUGENE, Ore. - California men's basketball sopohomore G Allen Crabbe scored 23 second-half points on the way to a season-high 26 as the Golden Bears (13-4, 3-1 Pac-12) surged past Oregon (11-5, 2-2) to win, 77-60, on Sunday, Jan. 8, at Matthew Knight Arena.
Crabbe also grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds to notch his second double-double of the year; the third of his career. Cal went on a 13-0 run in the second half as Crabbe knocked down three of his six three-pointers, to pull away from the Ducks. It was the second time in his career that Crabbe had hit as many three-pointers, and the third time, this season, that he had at least five in one game.
Senior G Jorge Gutierrez scored 18 and sophomore G Justin Cobbs added 15 points for the Bears, who beat the Ducks for the eighth straight time to tie a series record. Cal also won eight straight games from 1919-37.
Crabbe's fire power keyed a 23-5 run, in the second half, that put Cal up, 55-38, with 8:55 to play. It was during that stretch that Crabbe scored 11 points with three three-pointers. He finished 9-for-16, from the floor, and 6-for-8 on three-pointers. His only first-half points came on a three-pointer that gave the Bears a 20-17 advantage. Cal led 30-27 at the break and pushed its record to 13-0 in games in which it has held the halftime lead.
In 17 minutes off the bench, sophomore F Richard Solomon scored six points and tied his career-high with 10 rebounds; seven on the offensive end of the court.
Devoe Joseph led Oregon with 14 points. E.J. Singler scored 12, and Olu Ashaolu had 10 points.
Cal will be back in action as hosts of the Pac-12's newest members, this weekend. The Bears will take on Colorado in an 8 p.m. PT game on Thursday (Jan. 12) and then face Utah in a 7:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 14. For ticket information, please visit www.CalBears.com.
