Facebook Saturation?: Twitter, Skype, Instagram & Other Apps Downloaded More In July

Apple FacebookBased on downloads, Facebook's iPhone app was no longer the most popular mobile social networking app in many Asian countries and elsewhere from July 2011 to June 2012. This, according to the latest report from app store analytics firm Distimo, which took a look at trends surrounding mobile social networking applications over the past two years. Distimo found that apps like LINE, WeChat and Viber took over the leading position of Facebook in some countries, and Instagram become the second most popular app on iPhone within one year, after examining data aggregated over the 20 largest countries. In addition, in July 2012, Instagram had more downloads than Facebook, and apps like Twitter, Skype and Whatsapp were also popular.

Potter Family and Adelina Patti ? Dr. Myron Evans

This is very interesting, I agree about the book by Tony Hibbert, descendant of Constantine Hibbert the head gardener. My late father Edward Ivor Evans Y Grithig, son of William John Evans and Gwenllian Potter, mentioned him to me briefly. We organized a conference at Craig y Nos in July 2008, many scientists saw the Castle and I was raised to Armiger (Squire) on the same day. Horst Eckardt, Kerry Pendergast and myself visited Y Grithig and Penwyllt. My late uncle Raymond Vivian Evans advised me (in Welsh of course) that his mother Gwenllian was a fluent Welsh speaker and also worked at the Castle. Kerry wrote my biography, ?The Life of Myron Evans?. Morgan Morgan sold Craig y Nos to Patti in 1878 through an interpreter. We made efforts to try to get the Castle back but the owners took it off the market. It is in fair condition, nothing like the condition of Patti?s time. The first volume of my autobiogarphy ?O Hudd ei Ddoe? has just been published with Authors Online, in softback and multiple electronic format. Its preprint is in the blue box on the front page of www.aias.us above my coat of arms, the main element of which, granted to me by the College of Arms, is the golden lion rampant of the Morgan Awbrey ancestral cousin, the great Prince Rhys ap Gruffudd Deheubarth (twelfth century). In the attached second book of poetry there is an englyn to William John and Gwenllian, who lie in an unmarked grave in St John the Baptist Callwen. We should see about a headstone, with this englyn and a suitable biblical text. That assumes that the church will not be sold. It is much better to anticipate this and put it in a Family Trust, it is nearly a Family Church. St. Callwen was our ancestral cousin, daughter of Prince Brychan Brycheiniog (fifth century).

Dan y trum a dan y trwch, ? yng nghwm mwyn,
Yng nghwm mud, gorweddwch,
Clawdd y llan yn claddu llwch,
Yn ei hudd, yn ei heddwch.

As you may know the intricate rules of cynghanedd deny translation. However it scans something as follows:?

Under hillside and earth ? of a gentle valley,
A silent valley, lie there,
Earth of llan buries dust,
In its shadow, in its peace.

Further to my earlier email I have realised that I had not responded to all your points.

You do not mention your father?s Christian name, nor the graveyard where your grandparents are buried. Do you mean the graveyard attached to St David?s Church of Wales, between Abercrave proper and Ynyswen?

I mentioned Melbourne Griffiths because, albeit that he would be a first cousin of your father and is buried in Callwen, he is also the father of Sian James, the MP for Swansea East.

I do not know for certain, but think that, rather than Jennet, it was one of the Potter family who you are referring to as being in the close circle of those who attended Madame Patti. I am not aware of any of the daughters of William Morgan working for Madame Patti. They appeared to be more involved in bringing up their own large families and orphans of subsequent generations. Madame Patti arrived as they were producing their families and it was very much the next generation who found positions with her.

Mary Anne Potter, daughter of Rachel Morgan Potter, was her personal maid for some time around 1890 before marrying one of the many foreign people attached to Madame Patti?s staff. She was not alone in that respect in that one of the Potter girls married Adami, the head chef, and another married Constantine Hibbert, the head gardener. There were several others working there as well. Myron is your best source for all of them or Tony Hibbert. The latter?s book Fresh Flowers For M?Lady is well worth purchasing and is relevant to your own family history. You would find it very informative. It was available from the publisher, with postage thrown in compared with its retail cost. Google for it.

Best wishes

Stuart

Many thanks for your reply. I note your problems with obtaining copies of info held by other members of the family. I am afraid that we all have those problems. People in Abercrave have also in many cases placed little value in photos of their deceased relatives. It is rare indeed to find anybody holding a photograph from before 1900. They were certainly taken because the odd ones do turn up, but so many have and are being thrown away. [I was given a photo of a great great grandfather of mine who died in
Ystradgynlais in 1884, aged 83. It came, with others of the 1880s, from an
American cousin, his family having been sent them before 1900, and all were
named. None of these photos still existed in the
UK.]

If I was you I would ask your cousin to send you digital photos of the info that he has. If I go and see people I always take a digital camera with me. I have spent ages taking photos, at people?s homes, of their old photos when in most cases they would not, quite rightly, allow you to take them away to be scanned. I referred before to Doreen Jenkins. She has a lovely set of photos of the Griffiths family and she is well worth a visit. I have a photo of the Griffiths family taken before WW1 which shows the parents and their children, William, Morgan, David, Mary Hannah and her daughter, and Leyshon. When I am back running on full throttle, I can let you have a jpg file of it. Jennet has the rounded face which is characteristic of the Morgan family [her sister Rachel is similar and we only
have as yet photos of those two children of William Morgan]. My great grandmother, Mary Morgan, first cousin to Jennet, had a very round face and even now my two sisters are the same, as was our mother.

I would ask whether you could take digital photos of the old photos held by your father and perhaps let us have jpg files of them. It would be lucky indeed if any named William Morgan, and one is usually involved in detective work with such photos to identify anybody.

Your great uncle William Griffiths who died in 1962 lived at Tawelfryn in Caehopkin, but I do not know that house name. He is also buried in Callwen.

Best wishes

Forgive my tardy reply. I am heavily committed to running my business which involves my input above and beyond the 9-5 working day.

I did manage to break away for a quick Joe?s ice-cream at Mumbles on the weekend though: what a rare treat! :o )

I?m totally fascinated by family history as you?ve probably determined but haven?t had the time to devote to rigorous research, so I have scant detail. I don?t know any of the names you mention.

My cousin Bryan Griffiths (son of the elder brother Victor Griffiths) helped Dad to empty the Griffiths family home at 1 Morgan Street, Caehopkin way back in time, when I was teaching in Essex. Dad?s brother Vince lived in the property all his life. Leyshon another brother, lived in Coelbren with his wife Margaret. The youngest son Harold became a teacher and moved to Exeter for work. (Five sons, no living daughters ? two babies died in infancy and are buried alongside my grandparents in Abercraf, in the graveyard on the main road).

Dad has a few very old photographs tucked away in the attic. I can?t say for certain that there is one of William Morgan amongst them, but I will investigate. Cousin Bryan also has family papers, and photographs in his possession, and I have asked several times if I can borrow them but he hasn?t been very forthcoming ?.!

I plan to pursue him further.

It is wonderful to have been given the opportunity by you both to see the amazing research already executed.

I am sincerely grateful. It has filled my heart with joy.

I don?t know any of the people you included in the email so this is a very enlightening experience and a warming one too. It?s akin to finding ones tribe.

Regards to you

Myron copied me in your discussion and I thought that I would send you my comments which may be of interest to you. They are of necessity brief as my main computer is away being repaired and I write solely from memory.

My and your cousin, Stella Mathias, and I researched the Griffiths family about four years ago. We were primarily interested in the family of William Morgan [largely neglected by others], but kept running across the Griffiths family so many times that we had to investigate them as well, particularly with respect to the youngest daughter. William of course died at Rhongur Isaf with his daughter, Elizabeth.

Presumably you are aware that Thomas Griffiths and his father were from Ystalyfera, and that he was brought up at Pentrecribarth farm. He of course married Jennet Morgan [I do not know your spelling of her name] who was the youngest child of William Morgan and Anne Watkins. Jennet was of course the last of the Morgan family to die, there being no direct male heirs, but even she could not match her father in age terms.

We did some work on the children most of whom are buried at Callwen. I was supplied with a fair bit of info by Doreen Jenkins, grand-daughter of Mary Hannah Griffiths. We knew of your grandfather living in Morgan Street, though not of his descendants. I used to have a lot of relatives living in Caehopkin and my grandparents lived at Brynawel on Station Road. Your father would probably have known Dan Davies of Davies Street very well. He was a cousin and I attended the funeral of his daughter, Margaret, in the Mumbles only last year.

Did not your great-uncle, William Griffiths also live in Caehopkin? The afore mentioned, Elizabeth Morgan married into the Watkins family of Glyntawe, but I know little of them now.

Let me know if you have any old photos of circa 1900 as I have been searching without success to find a photo of William Morgan. It is of great interest to both Myron and myself. He lived until 1902 so I cannot believe that he was not photographed. The trouble is that half of Abercrave never valued what they had.

Presumably you knew Melbourne Griffiths. He married a cousin of mine and of yours who was descended from both David Morgan of Maesyfron, son of Morgan Morgan, and his wife, Anne, sister of Jennet. She, like all the children of William Morgan, lies in Callwen. Her father was buried in Tynycoed, with his wife, and her parents and grandparents.

?R oedd William Morgan yn hen hen hen ddadcu i mi, a dyma?ch teulu a?ch perthynas. William Morgan was my great great great grandfather and here is your Gruffudd (Griffiths) family. You are also descended from Tewdwr Mawr ap Cadell, Tywysog Deau Cymru, Prince Tudor the Great (born 977) the Queen?s Tudor ancestor. Felly mae?r holl achau fy niweddar tad yn perthyn i chi hefyd. Therefore all the genealogy on my late father?s side is yours also. In a message dated 26/08/2012 16:38:51 GMT Daylight Time, writes:

Good afternoon Myron

I decided to document the Griffiths family tree with Dad?s help. He is now 86 yrs old and his memories are fading but he has mentioned some salient detail. The information he provided led me to Callwen, Glyntawe where his grandparents Thomas and Jennette Griffiths are buried: he didn?t know where his great, grandparents were laid to rest. His parents Morgan and Edith Griffiths are buried in a cemetery on the main road in Abercraf along with babies Mary Jennetta, and Megan, and 20 yr old William Thomas Griffiths.

Recently Dad mentioned your name in connection with Y Grithig and a Google search yesterday brought me to your website, and the AIAS website. I?ve been studying your fascinating family tree all weekend. Thanks to your family history documents on the AIAS website I have discovered that his great maternal grandfather is William Morgan buried at Tynycoed Cemetery. William Morgan son of Dafydd ap Morgan and Gwenllian Powell.

I grew up with stories of how our ancestors were related to the Morgan brothers who had discovered Dan yr Ogof. There were other stories too about relations who worked for Adelina Patti. (Dad had told me stories about this ancestor being in the close circle of personal staff of the Diva ? I wonder if this lady is Jennette?). I often wondered how it might be that a Diva would choose my ancestor to be one of her closest attendants. It might be that Jennette was able to produce papers that offered up her pedigree, and being the niece of the landed gentry Morgan Morgan, who had sold Patti the castle, would also have carried weight, I imagine.

Dad remembers visiting Y Grithig Farm to see his grandmother Jennette Griffiths (nee Morgan). He also said his grandparents had farmed the land at Nantgwared Farm opposite the Castle. He talked about his grandfather Thomas being Assistant to the Craig y Nos Estate Manager. He also said that his Granddad Thomas was a herbalist, and his father Morgan inherited some of his medicinal recipes. As a child he remembers people knocking at the door to buy some of the potions and medicines produced in their kitchen. And, he remembers walking many miles around Glyntawe, Caehopkin and Abercraf distributing those medicines.

So it seems we have a shared ancestor in William Morgan (buried at Tynycoed). He is my great, great grandfather. His youngest daughter Jennette Morgan married Thomas Griffiths and they lived in #1 Y Grithig for some time. My father remembers visiting Rhongyr Isaf when he was a very, young boy. Dad?s family home was 1 Morgan Street Caehopkin where he lived with parents Morgan and Edith, and his brothers Victor, Leyshon, Vince, and Harold. Morgan Griffiths died in 1955 a year before my birth, and Edith died in 1944. I grew up without grandparents on either side.

Annie Griffiths, Tudor Watkins? mother, is Dad?s auntie on his father?s side. Two of her sons are buried in Callwen: Griffith Leyshon Griffiths and Thomas Alfred Griffiths (of Nantgwared Farm). The three Watkins spinsters are still at Ty Mawr Nursing home. It is believed that Tudor Watkins estate is funding their care.

Lovely to meet you in the ether, as it were. I hope you are well.

I will tell Dad that he has a distant relation he never knew, now revealed thanks to the digital age of internet research.

Regards to you

Nice to hear from you. I wrote about Grithig in volume one of my autobiography, just published with Authors Online, and the preprint is in the blue box on the home page of www.aias.us. My grandftather William John Evans lived in the end of the house nearest the river Tawe. It is a very nice place to visit, Ogof Fynnon Ddu is only about fifty yards away. William John was a lodger in Penwyllt beore he moved to the Grithig after marrying my grandmother Gwenllian Lodge (nee Potter). He first husband Frederick Lodge died in the 1918 flu pandemic. Gwenllian was the daughter of William John Potter Penwyllt and Hannah Thomas Henryd Isaf Coelbren. Her grandparents were David Potter and Rachel Potter who lived at one time in Pen y Foel near Penwyllt, above Grithig. Rachel was in the Royal Celtic line as attached. All the genealogy is on www.aias.us.

Rewards Site Swagbucks Now Rewards Users For Shopping, Too ...

Swagbucks, a site where users earn rewards for performing tasks like watching videos and taking surveys, is expanding with the launch of a new shopping page.

Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Scott Dudelson tells me that there?s clearly money to be made in affiliate shopping programs, but Swagbucks has held off, and instead built ?a large reputable loyalty brand around other Internet activities.? It has also built a profitable, bootstrapped business, with $23 million in revenue last year (not including the shopping launch, he says the company is on-track for $30 million in 2012) and more than 5 million registered users.

Still, shopping is a good fit for the Swagbucks audience, which Dudelson says is dominated by moms ? ?the mommy bloggers, the coupon cutters.? (When I last spoke to Dudelson, he contrasted Swagbucks with a social rewards site like Lockerz, which aims at a younger audience.) The new service is an extension of the general Swagbucks concept ? you start at the Swagbucks shopping site, then follow a link to one of the partner stores, and you earn a certain number of ?swag bucks? (which can be redeemed for rewards) for each dollar you spend. For example, you earn 2 swag bucks for every dollar you spend at Walmart.com, and 4 swag bucks per dollar at Sears. Swagbucks, meanwhile, makes affiliate revenue from your purchases.

Shop and Earn Screenshot

Dudelson says this should disrupt affiliate shopping sites like Ebates and Fatwallet, where users get cash back on their purchases, because at Swagbucks, the experience isn?t limited to shopping, but is instead part of a larger rewards program. The company also plans to add more social features and the ability to gift ?swag bucks? to other users.

Swagbucks has been beta testing the new service with a limited group of users, and launched for everyone this week.

Prodege has developed over 150 on-line reward programs including the web?s most popular rewards destination - Swagbucks.com. Swagbucks.com enables users to earn virtual currency that can be redeemed for real life rewards for everyday actions they take online - from searching the web, to playing games to shopping on-line and many more. Parents Plan To Pay 57% Of Childrens' College Tuition, Fidelity Investments Survey Finds

Parents may have the best intentions for their kids, but the high cost of college is making it harder and harder to meet their goals.

On average, parents plan to pay for just 57% of tuition, a new survey from Fidelity Investments found.

And even there, they are coming up short. Families have enough savings to cover just 30% of what they plan on paying, the study found.

To make up the difference, they will look to additional funding options such as student loans, grants, scholarships and gifts from grandparents.

Although more than three-quarters of parents said they don?t want to burden their children with hefty student loans, in many cases it may be unavoidable.

Graduates leave school with an average of $25,250 in student loan debt, according to recent reports.

?It?s important for parents to sit down as early as possible with their children to review their college savings goals and make adjustments where it makes sense,? John Eidson, a spokesman for Fidelity Investments, told the Daily News.

For now, many families are not facing up to the big issues.

Less than one-third of parents with college-bound students have considered issues like cost, the burden of graduating with debt or the impact of school selection, the study found.

But of those that are stepping up, 61% are willing to make the changes to help better manage post-graduation debt.

Nearly 40% of families are opting for less-expensive colleges, 28% are planning to rely more heavily on financial aid and 16% are asking their children to change majors to secure better salaries after graduation.

Different Theories of Investing Your Money - Finance Category

When you are building your wealth, it is important to have a personal philosophy and approach to your money. You should understand the ways that you think about money. Your money is ultimately a reflection of what you value in this lifetime. It is important for you to take some time to write down the ways in which you spend your money and whether this ultimately reflects your values and priorities in life.

You may be surprised to find out that your investment philosophy is surprisingly connected with your values and priorities, or you may find that your investment philosophy is very much apart from your current values and priorities.

Investing for Value

Investors who choose to invest for value will constantly seek out the most undervalued stocks on the market. They will attempt to buy a stock at a low price, and then they will simply sell the stock when its price increases. Investors who adhere to this type of philosophy will typically analyze the data of stocks in order to find out the debt ratio and profitability of companies. They will want to see whether the company has many outstanding debts and is truly valuable.

Stable Investing

Stable investing is also referred to as ?dollar-cost? averaging. In this type of investment method, an investor will typically invest a certain sum of cash into a stock on a monthly basis. The investor will consistently invest in a stock with the hope that the value of the stock steadily climbs throughout the year. This way, the money that the investor puts into the stock will steadily increase throughout the year.

Investment Theories of?Walter Wisniewski Paragon Capital

Walter Wisniewski has some interesting ideas on building wealth. He believes that people should invest when the time is right in their lives. It is important to work with a financial planner when you are looking to invest your hard-earned dollars in quality stocks. Because the stock market is so unpredictable these days, it is essential for a person to consult with a financial planner. A financial planner can greatly assist a person who wants to make the most out of his or her money.

Investing like Warren Buffet

On the other side of the spectrum is the investment habit of Warren Buffet. Warren Buffet tends to invest in stocks that the typical public would likely think he was crazy for investing in. He will typically invest in stocks that are at their all-time low. The reason Buffet chooses these types of investments is because the market tends to dramatically undervalue stocks when they do lose value.

This means that as the stock steadily regains its value, the investor is able to earn significant income. The investor is able to earn more this way than if he or she had invested in a stock at an ordinary price.

These are some of the most popular theories of investing that you can use in your own life to grow your wealth. The key is to pick a philosophy and stick with it when you want to grow your funds.

Knowing How To Tap Into Your Web Design ... - Internet Business Blog

Designing a website isn?t always an easy task. How can you make a website that catches someone?s eye the first time they visit it? Do you know enough about coding? Read this article to learn how to feature your content properly thanks to a great design.

Realize that every step of web design will take a lot longer than you anticipated. Working toward an unrealistic deadline will cause poor work, and that will create larger issues down the line. The best thing to do is be real, and give yourself a proper amount of time to complete your work the correct way.

Invest in some books on the topic of web design. When purchasing instructional books, make an effort to pick those that start from your level of expertise.

Photoshop can be a great resource for web design. Check out dreamweaver for a program that can help you with your web design endeavors.

Do regular checks to make sure none of the links on your webpage are out of date or broken. Proper web designing entails having working links, so users do not get annoyed. Check your site daily for any problems, and make important updates as often as necessary.

Make sure you have checked for links that could possibly be broken. The best time to do this is just before you FTP the page over to the server. Visitors who encounter broken links and errors will not stay on your site long enough to view your product. Check your website regularly to make sure it works properly.

Ask your web host what is and isn?t allowed when it comes to streaming video through your site. Many hosts forbid hosting video using their servers. The FLV files take up too much space on public servers, so you need to check beforehand or else you might waste your efforts.

If you are looking to create your own site, then consider trying a grid or shared hosting, rather than using a dedicated host or VPS. In the beginning you will not know the amount of traffic that will visit your site, so it is best to not pay more than you really need to at first.

Allow your users the ability to cancel something if they are not happy with what they typed in. Actions may involve searching the website for archives or a variety of topics, signing up for newsletters and notifications, or simply filling out forms. Visitors do not appreciate not being able to cancel things that they are not interested in completing, and they may not wish to return to your site for future purchases.

If you are determined to purchase a particular domain name, but discover that it is already in use, you should visit some auction sites that sell used domain names, for example Sedo. These sites are clearinghouses for outstanding domain names that are now unused or have been sold which you can now pick up for comparatively little money.

Leaving white space for your users is a well-reviewed element of design. It makes your site easier to read, and your content easier to remember.

You should always ask to see a website design company?s portfolio before you hire their services. Find out which companies they have worked for and how good they are. Their portfolio should demonstrate examples that are very close to what you want and expect for your own site.

A good place to find a domain name that suits the kind of site you want to create is to look through domain auctions. SEDO and similar domain auctions can be a big help to your website by letting you purchase already-established domain names. Although it could be costly, it is worth having a great domain name.

The information imparted in the preceding paragraphs are a good starting point, so keep them in mind as you initiate your project. As you continue to learn more about site design, it will become easier to retain a competitive edge

Website designers must always aim for perfection. Even if creating a perfect website is not possible, setting your mind on it will help you stay motivated and improve your work constantly. Having this sort of motivation will be of great benefit regardless of the purpose of any site you build.

Home prices rise for?fifth straight month

Shannon Stapleton / Reuters

A "for sale" sign is seen outside a home in New York in this June 19, 2012 file photo. U.S. home prices have risen for the fifth straight month, according to a new survey.

By Reuters

Home prices rose more than expected in June, the fifth month in a row of gains in a fresh sign of improvement in the housing market, a closely watched survey showed on Tuesday.

The S&P/Case Shiller composite index of 20 metropolitan areas gained 0.9 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis, topping economists' forecasts for 0.5 percent, according to a Reuters poll.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, prices were even stronger, up 2.3 percent.

"We seem to be witnessing exactly what we needed for a sustained recovery; monthly increases coupled with improving annual rates of change," David Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at Standard & Poor's, said in a statement.

"The market may have finally turned around."

Prices in the 20 cities rose 0.5 percent compared to the year before. Atlanta fared the worst, tumbling 12.1 percent from a year ago. Phoenix continued to bounce back from poor conditions and was up nearly 14 percent.

Although prices in June likely got a boost from the traditionally strong summer buying season, the gains on both a monthly and yearly basis boded well for the housing market, said Blitzer.

The report affirmed "that the overall market is healing, albeit at a frustratingly slow pace," said Stan Humphries, chief economist at Zillow.

Humphries said he expects to see prices weaken in the latter half of the year, though the period of sustained declines are likely in the past.

For the second quarter, seasonally adjusted national prices jumped 2.2 percent compared to the 1.4 percent gain that was seen in the first quarter.

Financial markets saw little reaction to the data as investors had their attention turned to a highly anticipated speech from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke at the end of the week.

Urban baby blog: Teaching anatomy to a toddler

Animal tails are hard to resist. I don?t know a single toddler who doesn?t like to pull dog tails. Or cat tails. You try to teach your child that pulling on tails isn?t nice, and that respecting animals is important, but sometimes even the best behaved kid can?t resist a good tug. Luckily, I have very tame and tolerant animals.

Tail tugging is all fun and games until someone crawls into bed with her sleeping parents, reaches into her father?s boxer shorts, and yanks ?dada?s tail.? Luckily, I have a very tame and tolerant (if now soprano) baby daddy.

One day your little angel is going to realize that daddies have?tails, and mommies don?t. It might be especially awkward if you have a toddler that was very excited to discover that her father had a ?tail? and wants to see it again. Then some dramatic temper tantrum is going to occur when you tell her that no, she can?t see daddy?s tail because it went away. In desperation you might bring a cat over so she can touch his tail instead. The cat will look at you with an ?et tu, Brute? expression and run away from you and your sobbing child leaving everyone tail-less. Then you will give up and plop your child in front of the television.

I?m not sure how to have the anatomy talk. My daughter is not even two years old yet, but she?s figured out that her and I are?um?the same, and daddy is different. I?m sure very very soon she will discover that one of the boys in her art class is just like daddy and the ?mommies and daddies have different parts? talk is going to turn into the ?boys have this and girls have this and it really isn?t necessary to compare parts with everyone you meet? talk. Then, (when my husband?s involuntary falsetto voice goes away) we will have to say the word penis, and my ever charming (and if you read urban baby blog last week, swearing like a sailor) child will be repeating the word penis to everyone on the street. I can picture it now. She?s going to point to the groins of total strangers and yell penis at the top of her lungs.

I have good reason to worry.?When I was my daughter?s age (according to my parents), after I discovered that daddies and the little boys at daycare had different parts, I got the ?penis talk.? Then a few days later I was at the bank with my father to deposit his paycheck. We were waiting on line with a bunch of people my dad knew and I loudly announced to them that Ashley (a boy from daycare) had a penis but it was a very little penis, and I held up my thumb and forefinger to demonstrate how tiny it was. I also announced that my daddy also had a penis but it was a great big penis and held my arms out wide to let everyone on Staten Island know of its magnitude. ?Twenty-four years later, my father still hasn?t lived it down.

Thank G-d today we have direct deposit.

I?m truly at a loss. Kids are curious, and that?s fine, but man parts and lady parts are a delicate discussion. I know it?s a bit of a safety issue too. We have to communicate that if anyone (aside from the pediatrician) asks my daughter to see her parts she should immediately go away and tell mommy or daddy. And that if she ever sees someone else?s parts she should tell mommy or daddy. Both my husband and I have tried to talk to each other about how to explain anatomy to our daughter, but it usually ends in an awkward silence and putting the talk off for when we have more time.

Maybe when our daughter is 30 and we finally unlock the bedroom door and let her out, we can do it.

Denny Hamlin picks up 1st Bristol victory

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) ? They bumped, they banged and a helmet was tossed, too.

It was just like old times Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, where tempers flared again much to the delight of track owner Bruton Smith.

Denny Hamlin didn't mind, either. He used an old-school "slide job" to make a late pass for the lead that led to his first career Bristol win. More important, the victory was the third of the season for Hamlin and moved him into a four-way tie for the top seed in NASCAR's championship race.

"You struggle to say what it means because I grew up watching this race and all the great finishes," Hamlin said. "This is just a milestone race that you always want to win. They've got one of the best trophies of all tracks and it's going to be one of my prized possessions and it's obviously my biggest win."

Hamlin flirted with Carl Edwards for the lead late in the race, and set up the move with 39 laps remaining Saturday night. Hamlin slid his way past Edwards on a track that was ground this summer by Smith in an effort to bring back excitement.

Edwards tried but failed to use a cross-over move to get back in front, and Hamlin drove away to the win.

"That's what you had to do. The only thing you could do was slide-job somebody," Hamlin said of the pass. "Bruton ground the track, but you still had the old Bristol here. It's one line, you still had to knock somebody out of the way to make a move."

There's two races left before the field is reset for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, and seeding is done by "regular-season" wins. Hamlin is tied for the series victory lead with defending champion Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski.

The four would be tied for the top seed right now, but all want at least one more win to break the logjam.

"We're not done winning yet. We've still got a few more to go," Hamlin promised.

Johnson finished second and clinched a berth in the Chase, as did Greg Biffle and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Matt Kenseth clinched at least a wild-card berth.

Jeff Gordon was third ? giving Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet's second and third ? followed by Brian Vickers in a Toyota and Marcos Ambrose in a Ford.

Kyle Busch was a quiet sixth, Clint Bowyer was seventh and Joey Logano, winner of the Nationwide Series race Friday night, was eighth. Kasey Kahne and Paul Menard rounded out the top 10. Edwards ended up 22nd.

The race was the first since Smith ordered a grinding of the top groove around the track in an effort to narrow the racing surface. His goal was to bring back bumping and banging to Bristol after several consecutive disappointing crowds.

Although the race wasn't a sellout, Hamlin noted "this is the biggest crowd I've seen here in forever."

But it created many unknowns as few were sure how the race would develop.

Asked Friday when it would become evident what the track changes had accomplished, Stewart mockingly said "exactly on lap 236. Not a lap before, not a lap after."

He was off by about 100 laps.

Stewart rallied from a lap down early in the race to put himself in position to challenge for the lead, but he ran out of track while running with Kenseth and the two cars collided. The damage briefly knocked Stewart out of the race and sent Kenseth to pit road for repairs.

Stewart then showed his displeasure with Kenseth with a two-handed toss of his helmet directly into the front grill of Kenseth's car. Stewart put all the blame squarely on Kenseth immediately after the accident, vowing to "run over him every chance I get for the rest of the year."

As for the helmet collected by NASCAR officials on pit road? "The hell with the helmet," he said.

Kenseth was confused with Stewart's anger, claiming he gave Stewart room earlier to avoid a wreck and Stewart didn't do the same.

"I guess he just wanted to do all the taking, so that's where we ended up," Kenseth said, adding the two had incidents this season at Sonoma and Indianapolis, and Stewart refused to speak to him about the Indy accident.

"I just said 'OK, that's fine. I'm just going to race you the same way you race me,'" Kenseth said.

As for Stewart's threat to wreck Kenseth the rest of the year, Kenseth didn't seem concerned.

"Look, Tony is probably the greatest race car driver in the garage. I don't really have anything bad to say about Tony," Kenseth said, adding he was expecting the helmet throw.

It briefly appeared that there would be two helmet throws during the race as Danica Patrick prepared her reaction following a wreck with Regan Smith. Patrick, who struggled mightily in Friday's two practice sessions, had climbed to 19th on the board and was on the lead lap when her night ended.

As she approached the track on foot, drivers called for her to throw her helmet at Smith. Alas, Patrick just wagged her finger at Smith as he circled passed.

"We were just racing hard, this is Bristol, this is why people love this track because you see a lot of that, you see tempers flare," Patrick said.

She's right. It's not wrecks that fans missed at Bristol, but they for sure pined for the angry explosions that racing around the tight bullring seemed to create. Drivers had mellowed the last several years at Bristol, and Smith figured narrowing the track surface would bring back the bumping and banging that put fans in the seats.

The drivers almost unanimously opposed any changes, but their protests were ignored as Smith moved forward with the grinding project.

Keselowski, the winner of the previous two Cup races at Bristol, was critical of the track after a wreck sent his car behind the wall for repairs.

"I know the goal was to make a one-groove race track so there'd be more action, but it had an inverse affect to where now everybody is running up against the wall," Keselowski said.

But Gordon, a five-time Bristol winner, thought the track was in terrific shape.

"I say they grind the whole place. It was awesome," he said. "It reminded me of old-school Bristol."

Annie Jaffrey: Skinny vs. Strong

Every day I get amazing emails from girls around the world about various topics and I LOVE hearing from you.?Once in a while I get emails from people who have overcome big health issues, from both extremes.?Some of you have told me how you were overweight and with a little inspiration from my videos and lots of hard work were able to loose a lot of weight and get healthy. Other times,?I read how someone was super thin and unhealthy, just to be "skinny", and how they were able to develop a great respect for their body.

I can relate to your emails because as you all know, I used to be overweight and unhealthy in my early teens. Through lots of research, healthy eating, exercise and?discipline, I am now at a very happy state with my body. A result of being happy and healthy, is a toned figure.

Something that's important to remember is to not think "I want to be skinny", instead to think "I want to be strong and healthy" - looking good and toned is a result of that (not the?other way?around).?It's also motivating to think "I want my heart to be healthy, I want my muscles to be strong, I want my immune system to kick butt, I want my skin to glow..." when exercising or choosing healthy food, rather than "I'm doing this just to be?skinny".

A few days ago, I got an email from a girl in the Middle East, telling me about her story of how she recovered from a bad eating disorder that she suffered with for many years. She told me she was able to find motivation through watching my videos and I was over the moon happy to hear that. I asked her if it would be ok to share her story with you all on my blog as I can only imagine how much pressure girls are under these days to look a certain way. But at the end of the day, it's about being the best you that you can be. She wants to remain?anonymous?but was more than happy to share her story in more detail.

Even though this is a heavy topic, it's?definitely?not one that should be left unspoken of. I love beauty, but beauty is more than pretty hair & makeup. It's health, confidence, happiness and more.

Here is her story...

"My cousin moved in with us 5 years ago and she would always tell me how fat I was and how no one would?like me if I was fat. She was constantly on my case about losing weight! I?wasn't?even that big. She started to tell me to skip dinner, or to barley eat through out the day. I was 12 so I?didn't?know any better. I went down to 95lbs (43kg). I also found out that she influenced her best friend to stop eating too. I guess a lot of the girls in the Middle East look up to skinny girls and want to be skinny really bad. They thought it was beautiful to be skinny but have big boobs and a butt too??Doesn?t?make sense right! lol I learned now that no one is perfect! You?shouldn't?try to force yourself to look like the way society wants?you?to look, its impossible! ?Everyone is different and they are all beautiful. I?remember?all of my cousins telling me that they?ve thrown up before but personally I always thought they were all beautiful the way they were. I guess they just were pretty closed minded about things. After a while I started to diet. Which led me to binge a lot. My weight eventually shifted up to 180lbs (81kg). It's scary how addicting eating disorders are. It?s not cool to stop eating, nor will it get you any real results. Its dangerous to start something like that, once you start its hard to stop. Eating disorders are so destructive! Your hair falls out, your nails become brittle, you teeth rot, bruising?easily?and so much more like diseases,?psychically?damage to your organs. I became obsessed with counting?calories?and dieting. And it just led me to binge even more! I struggle with depression, bipolar disorder and?anxiety?so eventually I lost all my friends because I?didn't?think I was good enough to leave the house or have a life. I became really shy and I?didn't?really talk about my life to anyone. Then?I lost 50 pounds! The 50 pounds was a combo of trying to recover with eating healthy/exercising?and?relapsing?here and there. Recovery is hard but I had a lot of inspiration :) it started out with your videos! When I watched them I was inspired! You seemed so happy and healthy I started to look up to that instead of sick skinny girls. Also from the tumblr community! If you know anyone?struggling?with an eating disorder, or just want to get in shape, tumblr is a very friendly place! There are so many recovery blogs and fitness blogs. This summer was the worst I?ve ever been though. I got stuck into a binging cycle. I?couldn't?stop binging every single day. It was so hard to control it. I?m still trying to get out of it today. I started to buy laxatives?because?I?felt?so guilty, I had a lot of self-hate towards myself. I started to self-harm too. Then the next day I'd eat only 500 cals to try to make up for it, or id?excessively exercise. I'd workout all day, I never told anyone or asked anyone for help, I just?kept?it all to myself (except for my family) and its?weird?because on the outside I seemed so happy but on the inside I really?wasn't! ? I started to also see a doctor, eating disorders can also harm you?psychically?not just mentally and that?s what I hope all girls know before they give up and stop eating or purge after they binge. I still till this day?don't?know what the damage is exactly. I just get a lot of rectal bleeding and abdominal pain along with many other problems. My doctors are still trying to figure it out. But I?ve read of much worse damage than that including death. And you know what??Starving, binging,?purging- none of that will make you beautiful nor will it solve any your problems. If?looking great is what you want, then just eat healthy and exercise! It?s really not as hard as it seems. ?It?ll give you better results and its healthier for you! Why?wouldn't?you want to love yourself and your body and try to be happy? And if you?struggle?with depression or?anxiety?then find other ways to cope with it then your eating disorder. Because I know that eating disorders are much more than just a problem with eating. ?I advise people to get professional help also if they need it. There are a lot of other girls sicker than me and I hope the best for them. You should?respect?your body because it?s the only one you have. Even just taking care of yourself can make you feel better about yourself. It?s also not just about what you look like. People always focus on your personality. If you are a nice person. And if one person?doesn't?like you, then there are 10 others who love you. Confidence is also?beautiful. And in the long run, your body will thank you for taking care of it instead of destroying it because of some little obsession. When you love yourself, so do others. After I started watching your blogs I started to?research?and learn more about the effects and risks of eating disorders, that it opened my eyes and brought me back to reality. ?I also love your new?videos?with all the healthy eating tips! I love to eat healthy now. I feel so much better and cleaner and so much?happier?and confident. I have enough energy to go out and have a life now. I am also making new friends as well :) my favorite?video?of yours is how to stay positive and?motivated. I?realized?that there was so much more to life that I was missing. I love to think?positive now?because life becomes so much easier to handle with confidence. I have dreams and goals when I?m positive and I?achieve?them?because?I believed in myself!

I know that recovery is hard but I know I can get through this and become healthy again. And I hope to inspire others as well. That?s why I?m so glad you wanted to put my story on your blog :) I was so honored! Thanks again for?listening?and everything. Sorry if it was a long message! It just feels good to let everything out as I usually keep everything to myself."?

I am sending you so much love for being so brave and sharing your story!! It's not easy & I thank you for allowing me to put this up. Hopefully it will inspire other girls too.

At the end of the day, it's about being strong and respecting your body. Imagine all the wonderful and amazing things it does for us without us even having to think about it. Breathing, fighting off?viruses?and infections, digesting our food, providing our cells with nutrition. It's pretty amazing when you think about it, so treat it right! :)?XOXO
