How to Correct Posture | Priority Health And Fitness

Are you having posture problem? Have you tried a course of posture exercises to correct it? Majority will say that they can bring improvement in their posture but how, no body knows. how to correct posture In our modern world we are not as active physically as our elders were. We spend long hours sitting at desks, in cars or when relaxing, slumping in front of the TV. It makes hard to use our muscles in the best possible way. Parts of your body get overworked such as your neck and shoulders whilst others will get weaker, invariably the lower back. Poor posture has been recognized as a factor in health for many years resulting in the development of posture exercises to correct it. But using the certain muscles set during posture exercises we disturb the natural reflex system for improving posture properly. how to correct your posture Our body has several built in postural reflexes to control muscular activity for specific movement and positions. Due to poor posture issue the natural reflex system badly influenced. Stress may be causing you to stiffen your neck and tighten your shoulders. Such actions disturb the normal balance of your body movement and positioning. Consistent misuse of muscles makes your movement faulty. It creates a complex situation for you. So the more you will take positions according to wrong pattern, the better adjustments your muscles will make with it. While I encourage following posture exercises to get better posture but in fact such movements create more stress for muscles and joints. What should we do to get our body stand on right footing? Is it the right way we should follow to stand. In my role as a teacher of The Alexander Technique I see many people who suffer as a result of poor posture. Most of cases were involved following instruction for correcting poor posture. Adding a little extra tension in order to stand ?properly? will not improve your posture ? it just adds to the strain on your muscles and joints. You should not waste your time to take position you think is right rather you should lower the stress making your natural reflexes work improperly. So it?s time to focus over poise not posture. Poise is a lost skill from our youth. Having poise in your body means that you don?t need to do a lot of effort to keep your body into balanced posture and to perform all basic action in proper natural way. You can see this skill in professional athletes and media personalities. Think of Muhammad Ali or Fred Astaire in their prime and that gives you a great example of freedom in movement. I doubt if they used exercises to improve their posture! Poise can be achieved just by pushing the stress and tension out of your body and letting it respond to the power of gravity. When you are on top of the world and walk with a spring in your step, you are poised. If you can sit over a desk with no stress over your shoulders, neck and back then you are poised. Trying harder and harder can only take yourself away from natural poise rather than helping you to improve your posture. So just stop over here and let your natural response to shape your basic position including sitting, standing and walking so you could get back you poise successfully.
